Birth Story — By Jeanette Koskey

The Arthur and Irene Beem home where Jeanette was born

I was born at home in 1936 – downstairs in that one bedroom. I was born premature. I think I only weighed 5 pounds – if that. Because I wasn’t born in a hospital, and we didn’t have incubators, the only reason I am alive today is because they were going through a heat spell where everything dried up, and it was very, very, very hot. It was so hot, it was like I was in an incubator. Plus, they kept hot water bottles wrapped up in the blankets. That’s how I survived. I was kind of sickly though.

I was a sickly child – kind of puny. My teeth came in rotten. I had stringy red hair. I could not go outside because I was asthmatic and had attacks. I was very sickly until I was around 12 – or maybe 10. So, I couldn’t be outside and be in the barn or tend the chickens. I was inside learning how to cook and clean. That was my job.

It may seem small and insignificant, as it should. The irony though is that it wasn’t a heat wave or hot bottles of water that allowed Mrs Jan to survive; but God reaching down with a Mighty Hand!! On that final day, when Mrs Jan sits on the judgement seat and looks out over the vast sea of individuals that she was an instrumental tool in their salvation; the Lord will say Well Done My Good And Faithful Servant! Great Is Your Reward! Thank you Mrs Jan for mentoring my wife and so many others!

You are absolutely right. The Lord had His hand of protection over her. God is good!

    Dear Elizabeth,

I have had a little time this morning to read your Blog, I was amazed at the comment of Joel Scholz an wondering how he even knew about this. It made me cry. Thank you Elizabeth for who and what you are to me and others. I love you so much and continue to pray for you and your family and the little one to be. You are half way there.
